"Pass the Poison," the debut release from Minneapolis punk rockers Bannerpilot, falls flat for several reasons. After presenting a very fun intro track called "Bender," the group's sound quickly becomes repetitive and tired.
The CD has only seven listed songs (and one unlisted track) and less than 18 minutes of music, but the intro to the first song is the only real memorable point. After that, the disc halts to a stop after the final track and leaves the listener wondering if it was just one long train wreck with no breaks in between songs, or an actual music CD.
The only merit that "Pass the Poison" deserves is the great, meaningful lyrics, even though they are indecipherable from just a listen. The liner notes were extremely helpful in understanding the wordplay (including the line from "Bender:" "2,000 miles seems like a long way to go to find out I can't make it alone. I know I'm fucked"). The musical translation is something like that, minus a lot of background yelling. Sleep on this one. BO
