The doors were kicked wide open with the balls-to-the-walls opening track from Live From Heaven's self-titled album. "God Save Our Enemies" is a thunderous track that let's you know what to expect over the next seven tracks. Unfortunately, none of the following tracks captured quite the thunder of the opener, but it allowed me to hear the full beast that is Live From Heaven. A power trio composed of the usual ingredients of guitar, bass and drums, they bring heaviness, tough riffs galore, slick guitar solos and arena-rock big vocals. They're kind of like Cream on steroids.
As mentioned, track one did the most for my inner rocking soul, but there was plenty of good stuff to follow. "Look The Other Way" has a cool melodic opening before busting into the ass kicking. "Fear of Failure" is a nice hybrid of AC/DC meets Soundgarden; "Eucatastrophe" shows a slightly gentler side of the band. There's almost a Darkness-type feel to the band, minus the wide vocal range (which can be a plus or minus, depending on who you are).
If you need something to pound your fist to or crank to 11 on the car stereo, Live From Heaven should be right up your alley. NH
