Tony Pucci - Unfolding
by Nelson Heise

Tony Pucci is a guy after my own heart: He records and he records and he records.

According to his bio, he's released more than 80 full-length albums since 1986, which is an average of four a year - and I think that's awesome. I average about two or three a year and everybody bitches at me about putting too much shit out, but guys like Tony and Robert Pollard prove there's no such thing as too many songs. What is equally rewarding as Tony's work ethic is that his tracks are good, sweet, dark and melodic pop rock tunes.

"Unfolding" is Tony's first "real" label release on Heyday Records, which adds even more to the admiration I have for him. He's cranked out music despite not having a label to distribute the albums. Tony is certainly a contender for DIY poster boy of the last two decades, because not only is he cranking out tons of good tunes, he records them himself.

"Unfolding" is definitely a quality disc, but I'm curious of how much of it represents Tony's large body of work. I know for myself I like to try different genres ala Neil Young, so I wonder if Tony does the same, and if this is only the tip of the iceberg as far as his talents are concerned.

This guy is worth checking out. NH
