I do think I need to say I’m not the biggest hip-hop fan. So I wasn’t sure how I was going to respond to Capaciti’s “Kill That Noise.” I played the CD and to my surprise, I started getting sucked in. There’s a mesmerizing quality to it I didn’t normally hear in my minimal exposure to hip-hop. After the first track, “Introduction,” subsided, the heavy beats came pounding down and I found myself bobbing my head. I was digging it, especially the track “Higher Ground,” a shout out to past hip-hop legends and Capaciti’s drive to find himself among those ranks. So, yeah, this shit was good and the production throughout the whole album was top notch. The mixing job by Anom and the Beat Mixers makes for a sonically well-rounded and well-crafted album.
I have to say I dug it most when the beats slowed down and the songs became smoother, more suave. The twisted talking in tongues sample that opens “Sleep Walkin’” makes for a spooky intro. “Hallucinations” won me over right away with its hypnotic beat and well delivered rhythms. A real bonus on “Kill That Noise” is that Capaciti adds four live tracks not listed on the outside cover. It’s always nice to get more music than you’re expecting, especially when the music to turns out to be better than anticipated. NH
