CD Review – Trace The Skyline – Self Titled

By Tammy Reese

Spunky Alternative pop Band Trace the Skyline breaks through the clouds with their self-titled debut EP, “Trace the Skyline,” proving that originality can be found among the oodles of wannabe bands. Unlike the majority of albums this EP is a cut above the rest, boasting five songs that are equally as precocious.

For a group that came together only a year ago, they are making exemplary progress to become a very successful band in such a short amount of time.

Not very often does one find that an entire album has great songs for each and every track but Trace the Skyline’s EP offers five delectable songs anchored with strong and catchy harmonies, which are beautifully arranged and mesh well with the vocals and the overall style of the group.

“Perfection” is nearly perfect, encouraging listeners to act rather than sit idle and inspiring people to think about what the song is actually about. As the lyrics go, “when you listen to your favorite song you wish that you could be the guiding light behind the one who wrote the melody, just carry inhibition found in passing moments gone ’cause I need you I need you to hold on  //  we’ve gotta take take take what is coming to us, we’ve gotta make make make something happen from this, we’ve gotta give give give it a chance we’re goin’ for a ride  //  let’s tear apart perfection why not form some common ground, it’s so easy to get lost in life so much harder to be found,  lets burn these broken bridges that have robbed you all along ’cause I need you I need you to hold on  //  we won’t look back on a thing, the day will present what we bring.”

The only thing that I found to be a drag was that the vocals, which at times become a tad monotonous. Giving life to a thought that singing is just a chore and not something that they love to do. Perhaps that is just how it is meant to be sung and that they do love what they are doing. All I can say is that Trace the Skyline should keep it up, the sound and style of the band is phenomenal and reminds me of other successful groups. This debut EP is one that certainly builds the anticipation of what is to come in the future for these guys.
