CD Review – The New Monarchs – Blueprints

By Anthony Newes
So here’s the deal: sometimes when I’m doing stuff on my computer, unexpected nonsense happens that I’ve no control over and it truly and seriously pisses me right off. Of course, then I have to dial a number up that’s clearly not in my area code and speak to someone who, presumably, knows a helluva lot more about computers than I do. If I had friends in the computer biz I’d call em’ up and ask for a helping hand but I don’t. So what can I do right? Well, up until now that’d been a big problem in my life, but since I’ve been listening to The New Monarchs I’ve got no more worries to worry about. Right here in the mighty Twin Cities computer technicians and programmers are on staff just waiting to take your call. They are called: The New Monarchs.
Founded in 2005, The New Monarchs are a two-piece group out of Minneapolis who seem to know a helluva a lot more about keyboards, synthesizers and programming zeros and ones then yours truly will ever know, period. According to their MySpace page, they are an Alternative/Electro outfit and I’ve got to say that there’s no humanly way these guys are idiots.
They’re plenty skilled in the art of programming beats and there’s a lot going on in their new record ‘Blueprints’. If it’s rhythm and beats you want then that’s what you’ll get cuz there’s plenty of rhythm, beats and ditties to dance to all up and down this disc. Seriously, this is a ‘move yo body round the way girl’ type of record for sho.
It’s a well polished project that must have taken quite some time to record, very meticulous. Sure, it sounds a bit like the Postal Service, but so what? Don’t most people like the Postal Service anyways? Well, if you do I’d recommend picking up this new record. After all, according to the band “it will hypnotize you into an ethereal soundscape that you’ll never want to part ways with”. Just go ahead and try to tell me who wouldn’t want that.
